Frequently Asked Questions
Answers:1. What file formats are supported? The following file types are supported: mp3, m4a, wma, ogg. Some variants of these files might not be currently supported. For example, wma pro is currently unsupported. If you think a file is missing from your account it might be because it is currently unsupported or corrupt. You may contact support to notify us of such files and we'll do our best to help you out. 2. Can I turn off the computer running the PC Client and still listen to my music? Yes, but only if all your music is already uploaded to the MeCanto servers. In general it is recommended to leave the PC Client running at all times so it can sync new files with your online account whenever you update your music collection. 3. How do I know when all my music is uploaded? To find out if all your music is already uploaded open the MeCanto PC Client application. If you see the upload symbol it means you still have files that are in the process of being stored on the server. If you see "thumbs up" symbol it means all your music is uploaded.
4. The PC Client doesn't seem to connect to server. What can I do? If you see a connecting animation The main cause of connection problems is related to firewall configuration. If your firewall is configured to pass HTTP traffic only and block all other outgoing connections this may cause connection problems. To solve this please configure your firewall to enable non HTTP outgoing connections. This usually happens when company network administrators attempt to secure the network by applying restrictive rules that mainly hamper employee productivity and satisfaction. Please explain the situation to your network administrator so he can fix your connection problem. 5. Is it safe to install MeCanto software on my computer? Yes. The MeCanto software only communicates with the MeCanto servers so it will not allow anyone else to access your files. The software will only access the files you tell it to and will not send any personal information to anyone. The only information it sends is the content of your music files which are transferred to your personal account on the MeCanto servers. The software will not install spyware or annoying pop ups of any sort. 6. What is the storage limit on my account? How many tracks can I have in my account? There is currently no defined storage limit. Our goal is to enable users to store their entire music collection online and imposing some limit on storage will defeat that purpose. 7. What communication ports does the MeCanto application use? Do I need any special firewall configuration to make it work? MeCanto does not require any special firewall configuration. If you can browse the web from your computer MeCanto should work just fine. 8. Is there a PC Client for Mac/Linux? We're planning on releasing one in the future. Currently Mac/Linux users can upload their music using the manual upload feature available in your account. 9. How do I scrobble my music? In order to scrobble your music you need to grant MeCanto access to your Last.fm account. In your web account click: 10. Why can't I see my scrobbles? Only tracks which are played completely (you listen to them until their end) are scrobbled. This guarantees that only music which deserves to be scrobbled is scrobbled to your last.fm account. |
